Get Thee To An Inpatient Alcohol Rehab, Charlie Sheen!

He’s Done It Again, Folks…

Sheens Latest Mugshot

Smile Pretty, Charlie! (Is this the "Young Guns" look or what?)

After an alleged decade or so of sobriety, Charlie Sheen is officially back in the news for an alcohol-fueled incident that eventually culminated in a visit from –who else?– the police.  At 7:30 AM on Christmas morning, the “Two And A Half Men” star’s wife, Brooke Mueller, placed a frenzied call to 911 claiming that Sheen was drunk and threatening her with a knife.  The pair had been vacationing in Aspen with, ironically, their respective “sober companions” (a.k.a. paid, sober babysitters) in tow when they decided to go for an ill-fated Christmas Eve dinner at a local ski lodge.  Several witnesses report that Sheen, while not drinking heavily, sipped a cocktail while his wife proceeded to get annihilated.  What really happened after that is anyone’s guess, but we do know that, whatever went down, it resulted in Sheen’s arrest on both assault and domestic violence charges.

Sober Living, Charlie Sheen Style…

Now, us recovering alkies here at NITtools.com (and there are a few of us) know as well as the next 12-stepper that gossiping is hardly a feature of a spiritual life.  It’s ugly, destructive, and pointless, so we’re sorry that we’re doing it.  But, hell, it sure is a lot of fun!  On that note, let’s get serious: the fact is, Charlie Sheen is an alcoholic.  He claims to have been sober since 1990-something, but last time we checked, blowing a .04 (which he did following this most recent domestic dispute) means you’re halfway legally drunk.  Unfortunately, last time we checked, there is no such thing as being halfway sober.  Charlie has admitted he is an alcoholic, so presuming that is true, even the slightest ingestion of alcohol can trigger the phenomenon of craving characteristic of this insidious disease.  We can only hope that Sheen isn’t convincing other struggling alcoholics that “sober living, Charlie Sheen style” isn’t a viable option.  If you are addicted to drugs an alcohol, don’t be a Charlie – total abstinence is the way to go.

The Rumor Mill – Is Sheen Battling Vicodin Addiction?

It’s no secret – celebrities love their Vicodin.  Matthew Perry, Winona Ryder, Rush Limbaugh, Courtney Love and countless other, diverse celebs have copped to their own crippling additions to the prescription drug.  Heck, rapper Eminem even has a tasteful tattoo of a Vicodin pill on his shoulder.  The point is, we certainly wouldn’t be surprised if Charlie Sheen was, in fact, struggling with a Vicodin addiction.  He is obviously already in “relapse mode,” so why wouldn’t he indulge in a drug that, to most, seems fairly harmless?  We don’t have any solid proof, though, so for now we’ll lay off.  What we DO know is that Sheen was seen vanishing to the restaurant bathroom several times over the course of his meal with Mueller…and we also know that Charlie loves the cocaine.  Hmmm…

Charlie’s Best Option: Inpatient Alcohol Rehab

Let it be known: we are not in the business of condemning addicts and alcoholics who have succumbed to a relapse.  Some might even suggest that relapse is a part of recovery.  Frankly, we don’t agree, but if relapse is a part of your story, forgive yourself already – hell, we do!  Given that Sheen is clearly struggling with his cunning, baffling, and powerful alcoholic demons, we truly feel that his best option (for the sake of P.R. team and his mental health) would be to voluntarily check himself in to an inpatient alcohol rehab center.  Unfortunately, Sheen has a history of leaving treatment centers far before completing a full, 28-day stay.  Still, if ole’ Charlie could get it together and weather the full course of treatment, he’d probably have a fighting chance of re-rooting himself in recovery and, perhaps, beating this current case.

Living in Crisis: Drug Addiction Intervention and Intervention Services

Crisis Intervention

The word intervention is most often associated with drug addiction, alcoholism, eating disorders, etc. However, there are other instances that may require an intervention. Individuals who go through an extremely traumatic experience or event might require special attention, such as an intervention. Events such as a natural disaster, a near death experience, domestic violence, a death in the family, etc., are all traumatic experiences that are very difficult to recover from. A crisis intervention aims to help the victim deal with and confront what happened to them and move forward. Various crisis intervention programs approach the issue differently depending on what it was the victim experienced, when it happened, etc.

Drug Addiction Intervention

For some people, a traumatic experience can be emotionally tolling and they may turn to drugs and/or alcohol to cope. In this case, the crisis intervention may need to be coupled with a drug addiction intervention in order to target both areas of trauma. Drugs and alcohol are a common outlet that people use to manage stress in their lives that may be a result of these experiences. In this case, it is recommended to use a professional interventionist. Complications arise when the individual has multiple needs and a professional will be able to structure and organize a proper intervention plan.

Intervention Services

Working with a professional interventionist will give you and your family the structure you need. However, if you don’t have access to a professional here are some intervention services that you can use yourself. First it is important to research various treatment options, and this depends on the needs of the individual. Second it is important to develop a proper plan of action, including timing, setting, who will be present, etc. Then of course there is the intervention itself.

Drug Detoxification for Drug Addiction

Filed under: Health, Interventions, addiction — john @ 10:29 pm

The problems brought about by drug addiction can be very alarming since more and more people are getting addicted to more than one substance. Most of these drugs create withdrawal symptoms once the consumption is stopped since the body is now accustomed to the substance. The severity of the withdrawal however depends on the nature of the substance abuse and the level of dependency.

Drug detox on the other hand is one way of getting rid of the toxins that the body has accumulated with the use of drugs. Since withdrawal is the first step in drug detoxification, as much as possible, detox centers offer the simple medication to minimize the body’s reaction. Depending on the case of each patient, people who use cocaine and alcohol takes the routine detox course. Counseling and therapy are also provided along the course.

Ideally, drug detox ensures the complete purification from drugs and covers all withdrawal symptoms experienced by the patient. The main goal is to remove the drug residue in the patient’s body. In case the residues are not completely removed, cravings may occur some years after the treatment.

Basically, there are three stages in the drug detoxification process. The first stage is called the medical detox. The doctor will oversee the withdrawal process of the patient in order to ensure that there are minimum complications encountered. The second stage is called the physical detox. A nutritionist will guide the patient in working out for the physical health of the body by providing a more balanced diet. And the last stage is the emotional detox. This is where counseling happens especially with the patients having trouble with the drug detoxification process.

The whole drug detox treatment is a difficult task. That is why personal conviction of the patient is very necessary as well as the support of the family and friends. The success of the detoxification is based on the determination of the patient to completely get rid of the substance abuse addiction.

What to Expect in a Rehabilitation Center

There are a lot of alcohol drug rehab centers across United States. Some patient even choose to be treated outside the country. Rehabilitation is surely an emotional and mental challenge for a person that needs every ounce of restraint and focus. It is then the responsibility of alcohol and drug rehab centers to find the methods and ways for each patient to embrace healing. Each and every individual that enters a  clinic or submit to a program is different. It is important that institutions that help them know what these individuals need to recover from their addiction.
Every addiction rehabilitation center you see has some sort of approach towards psychological rehabilitation. Even when drugs can be eliminated from the patients body, it is the mental obstacles and breakdowns that continue the cruel cycle of drug abuse. Most drug rehab and alcohol rehab include treating patient physically, mentally and spiritually with their programs. This kind of approach gives the best success rate towards patients recovery and release from the ordeal.
It is also much healthier for the patient to receive well-rounded healing so that they may achieve a more stronger and positive outcomes. It is the goal of rehab centers to make sure that the patients have all the needed knowledge and tools to resist temptation and face the threat of relapse.
No one ever intends to be addicted to anything but it happens. And when it does, there is only one way to go back to a normal life and that is through rehabilitation program.

There is an enormous amount of time, focus, effort and heart that is poured into the workouts necessary to prepare for such a battle. It requires sheer determination and mental tenacity to develop the body that the contestants have and additionally a great amount of patience to wait for the big day where one can be declared a winner.
