Types of Detox

Filed under: Health — Tags: — john @ 12:43 am

The process of drug detoxification differs from one person to another. Some drug detox requires the use of a carefully selected medicine in the treatment of addictions. This type of drug detox, known as substitute drug method, is usually administered in lieu of the drugs the patients have already been taking and have grown addicted to. While this process can successfully lead the way to complete recovery from drug addictions, some health professionals still warn that this can also lead to another form of addiction.

Another type of detox is rapid drug detoxification, which is administered in some residential drug treatment centers and typically shortens the detox period by three days. This type is used among patients with severe addiction problems and those who exhibit severe withdrawal symptoms from drugs. During this process, the patient is put under general anesthesia and injected with strong drugs to help flush out toxins. This is a physically stressing detox process that should not be practiced at home.
