Cocaine Addiction

For many addicts the use of cocaine usually starts recreationally and then turns into habitual use. When someone is addicted to cocaine, they seem “strung out”, anxious, seem to be more alert and have a decreased appetite. It is the second most popular drug to use in the United States (behind marijuana). It is generally used by the middle and upper classes and is commonly used as a party drug, because it increases an individual’s confidence and allows individuals to continue partying for days. If you or a loved one suffers from cocaine addiction, you’re not alone.

There are California drug treatment centers where addicts can receive necessary cocaine treatment. If you suffer from an emotional disorder too, there are dual diagnosis treatment programs available. Patients diagnosed with a dual disorder should not be embarrassed. It is best to tackle both conditions simultaneously in order to have the best outcome, because if only one condition is treated, it leaves the patient vulnerable to relapse.

Addiction Center Experts: Say No to Celebrity Rehab!

Are Alcohol Addiction Centers Getting a Bad Name?
Many believe that the celebrity rush to rehab is giving alcohol addiction center a bad name. This article by Simma Lieberman takes a look at “celebrity-rehab abuse”. Some believe that constant public exposure to celebrity drug addicts will take the spotlight of the average person who works hard for their sobriety. The TV perception of rehab doesn’t always show that there is more to treatment than just a 30 day stay.

Medical Supervision for Alcohol Detox
The argument that the rich and famous should have the responsibility to treat the drug and alcohol detox process with respect. Instead of acting out and creating drama for the camera, there are celebrities who seek treatment in private. Because of shows like Celebrity Rehab we are used to attention getting tactics such as dramatic stormouts and attention getting tactics to possible revive a dead career. Many believe that this unrealistic depiction devalues the real struggle of those trying to find addiction freedom.

Getting Well at an Addiction Center
Because of these televised depictions of celebrity addiction center, it’s important for others to get a real idea of what really happens. Although there is no one treatment method, a medically supervised detox is usually the first step. Just because the body is free of a certain substance does not mean that treatment is over yet. This can be a physically and psychologically draining process, which is why therapy and group sessions can help. Post treatment options also include continued services to help as the individual is slowly returning to their everyday routine without depending on a substance.

Alcohol Detox and Why Suddenly Stopping is Bad

New Method alcohol detox

Assistance at an Addiction Center
Alcoholics with chronic drinking problems have more to worry about than going cold turkey. A new study shows that suddenly stopping can send high levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Along with dangerous withdrawal symptoms, this is another reason why addicts should seek professional help at an addiction center. Medical experts believe that high concentrations of cortisol are associated with neurotoxicity in the brain. This condition can impair memory, attention span and decision making – not a good mix.

Alcohol Detox with a Plan
Before attempting alcohol detox alone, addicts can benefit from medical help. This will prepare you in dealing with the mental and physical side effects, including withdrawal. Just because the body is rid of alcohol toxins doesn’t mean that a person is sober. This is just the beginning and many recovering addicts are in a vulnerable state at this point. Mental support and therapy can help give a better understanding behind the reasons that a person starts to drink and how they can abstain after treatment. Like anything else in life, it helps to have a plan of attack before attempting alcohol detox.

The Best Addiction Treatment Services
There is a public stigma towards addiction treatment services. This is why some addicts try to hide their addictions and solve their problems on their own. They may not want to burden friends, family and co-workers with a revelation of their addiction. Experts believe that the best addiction treatment services are when all the loved ones in your life can be involved. Together, you’ll be able to move ahead in life more efficiently, as you have the support of all the people who matter to you. It helps to have a supportive system during recovery and alcoholics don’t have to do it alone.

Addiction Therapy to Overcome Doctor Shopping

Doctors Who Over Prescribe Their Patients
It’s devastating to hear more stories like these come to light. Doctor shopping is a practice in which addicts go to doctors who are well known to liberally prescribe medication with little or no medical examinations. This is a dangerous practice as the doctors often realize see signs that the individual needs help at a drug addiction center. Instead, the LA Times finds a general practitioner whose 6 patients died soon after receiving prescriptions from Dr. Lisa Tseng.

Addiction Therapy Helps Families
Dr. Tseng has not been charged but six families are now in grief of losing their loved ones. Her patients consisted of 6 young men in their 20s. Many of the men drove hours to Dr. Tseng’s office to get prescriptions. Authorities are finding that the men have a lot in common, including needing addiction therapy for their addiction to pain killers. Many of the patients suffered injuries from sports injuries which caused them reoccurring pain as well as an excuse to get more prescription medication.

Drug Addiction Treatment for Painkillers
Drug addiction treatment for prescription drugs is an important topic to address. Many patients and their families can become disillusioned because these drugs are legal and can be obtained easily. When suffering from chronic pain or other conditions, it makes it easy for individuals to feel a physical and mental dependency on these drugs – which are very strong. Take the time to get your loved one the help that they need so that they don’t meet the tragic fate of these six young men.

Get Thee To An Inpatient Alcohol Rehab, Charlie Sheen!

He’s Done It Again, Folks…

Sheens Latest Mugshot

Smile Pretty, Charlie! (Is this the "Young Guns" look or what?)

After an alleged decade or so of sobriety, Charlie Sheen is officially back in the news for an alcohol-fueled incident that eventually culminated in a visit from –who else?– the police.  At 7:30 AM on Christmas morning, the “Two And A Half Men” star’s wife, Brooke Mueller, placed a frenzied call to 911 claiming that Sheen was drunk and threatening her with a knife.  The pair had been vacationing in Aspen with, ironically, their respective “sober companions” (a.k.a. paid, sober babysitters) in tow when they decided to go for an ill-fated Christmas Eve dinner at a local ski lodge.  Several witnesses report that Sheen, while not drinking heavily, sipped a cocktail while his wife proceeded to get annihilated.  What really happened after that is anyone’s guess, but we do know that, whatever went down, it resulted in Sheen’s arrest on both assault and domestic violence charges.

Sober Living, Charlie Sheen Style…

Now, us recovering alkies here at NITtools.com (and there are a few of us) know as well as the next 12-stepper that gossiping is hardly a feature of a spiritual life.  It’s ugly, destructive, and pointless, so we’re sorry that we’re doing it.  But, hell, it sure is a lot of fun!  On that note, let’s get serious: the fact is, Charlie Sheen is an alcoholic.  He claims to have been sober since 1990-something, but last time we checked, blowing a .04 (which he did following this most recent domestic dispute) means you’re halfway legally drunk.  Unfortunately, last time we checked, there is no such thing as being halfway sober.  Charlie has admitted he is an alcoholic, so presuming that is true, even the slightest ingestion of alcohol can trigger the phenomenon of craving characteristic of this insidious disease.  We can only hope that Sheen isn’t convincing other struggling alcoholics that “sober living, Charlie Sheen style” isn’t a viable option.  If you are addicted to drugs an alcohol, don’t be a Charlie – total abstinence is the way to go.

The Rumor Mill – Is Sheen Battling Vicodin Addiction?

It’s no secret – celebrities love their Vicodin.  Matthew Perry, Winona Ryder, Rush Limbaugh, Courtney Love and countless other, diverse celebs have copped to their own crippling additions to the prescription drug.  Heck, rapper Eminem even has a tasteful tattoo of a Vicodin pill on his shoulder.  The point is, we certainly wouldn’t be surprised if Charlie Sheen was, in fact, struggling with a Vicodin addiction.  He is obviously already in “relapse mode,” so why wouldn’t he indulge in a drug that, to most, seems fairly harmless?  We don’t have any solid proof, though, so for now we’ll lay off.  What we DO know is that Sheen was seen vanishing to the restaurant bathroom several times over the course of his meal with Mueller…and we also know that Charlie loves the cocaine.  Hmmm…

Charlie’s Best Option: Inpatient Alcohol Rehab

Let it be known: we are not in the business of condemning addicts and alcoholics who have succumbed to a relapse.  Some might even suggest that relapse is a part of recovery.  Frankly, we don’t agree, but if relapse is a part of your story, forgive yourself already – hell, we do!  Given that Sheen is clearly struggling with his cunning, baffling, and powerful alcoholic demons, we truly feel that his best option (for the sake of P.R. team and his mental health) would be to voluntarily check himself in to an inpatient alcohol rehab center.  Unfortunately, Sheen has a history of leaving treatment centers far before completing a full, 28-day stay.  Still, if ole’ Charlie could get it together and weather the full course of treatment, he’d probably have a fighting chance of re-rooting himself in recovery and, perhaps, beating this current case.

Living in Crisis: Drug Addiction Intervention and Intervention Services

Crisis Intervention

The word intervention is most often associated with drug addiction, alcoholism, eating disorders, etc. However, there are other instances that may require an intervention. Individuals who go through an extremely traumatic experience or event might require special attention, such as an intervention. Events such as a natural disaster, a near death experience, domestic violence, a death in the family, etc., are all traumatic experiences that are very difficult to recover from. A crisis intervention aims to help the victim deal with and confront what happened to them and move forward. Various crisis intervention programs approach the issue differently depending on what it was the victim experienced, when it happened, etc.

Drug Addiction Intervention

For some people, a traumatic experience can be emotionally tolling and they may turn to drugs and/or alcohol to cope. In this case, the crisis intervention may need to be coupled with a drug addiction intervention in order to target both areas of trauma. Drugs and alcohol are a common outlet that people use to manage stress in their lives that may be a result of these experiences. In this case, it is recommended to use a professional interventionist. Complications arise when the individual has multiple needs and a professional will be able to structure and organize a proper intervention plan.

Intervention Services

Working with a professional interventionist will give you and your family the structure you need. However, if you don’t have access to a professional here are some intervention services that you can use yourself. First it is important to research various treatment options, and this depends on the needs of the individual. Second it is important to develop a proper plan of action, including timing, setting, who will be present, etc. Then of course there is the intervention itself.
