Eating Disorders

There are three different eating disorders: anorexia, bulimia and binge eating. When an individual suffers from binge eating disorder, they eat unusual amounts of food as a means of emotional comfort. Often these people can’t see the triggers to their emotional eating. Individuals who suffer from bulimia binge eat and then purge (either by vomiting or misusing laxatives.) Bulimia seems to be increasingly more common among young people in the United States. If someone struggles with anorexia, they starve their bodies of necessary nutrients and food as a means of staying thin. If you think you or a loved one suffers from any of these disorders speak to a specialist immediately and receive a health diagnosis. Having an eating disorder can plague an individual the rest of their lives. The key to living a functional life is to know what triggers the eating disorder. Not only that, but it is necessary to relearn coping skills to give the individual strength in times of stress.

These disorders are usually accompanied with an emotional disorder. If that is the case the individual can be diagnosed with a dual disorder and should seek dual diagnosis treatments, because a dual disorder is a serious diagnosis. There are dual diagnosis treatment facilities accessible for these patients to seek the necessary and important treatment.

Lingerie Plus Size in the Mainstream
Can you believe that the winner of this season’s America’s Top Model is a lingerie plus size model? Whitney Thompson recently bared it all in a campaign to promote “Love Your Body Day”, which will be held later this year on October 23rd. Is it any surprise that Whitney won it all amongst her thinner counterparts? This season was controversial as one model was so thin that you could literally warp your hands around her waist. As Whitney puts it, “Tyra remains a leading figure in the fight for body equality in the fashion industry”.

Plus Apparel Models
Although these plus apparel models aren’t wearing any clothing. This is showcasing a great message to girls and woman of all shapes and sizes. Tyra herself has come under fire since her body is now more curvaceous than during her heyday. Is it a surprise since statistics show that it is normal for women aged 18 to their 30’s to gain at least 2.2 per year? Instead of talking in sizes and pounds, it’s important for a woman to feel comfortable and healthy in her own skin. Plus apparel can be a beautiful thing that women don’t have to be ashamed of wearing.

Encouragement for the LA Woman
Whitney and other plus sized models provide great inspiration and encouragement for the LA woman. In the past season of the modeling show, only 5 other plus size models made it to the competition but Whitney was the first one to win, and boy does it feel good! In the end, let’s hope that Whitney sets a good impression for the future seasons of the show. As Tyra puts it, “I’ve always felt it was my mission to expand the narrow perceptions of beauty”. Can you believe that we actually agree with Tyra on this one?
