The sober living homes are the best housing option for alcoholics and drug addicts who have completed the rehab program. In general, the sober living home provides the support for continuing sober from alcohol and drugs. The sober living home is very reasonable and provides the invaluable intermediary tool to enter the society again. They are also known as halfway houses. It proves beneficial techniques in recovery when addicts get surrounded with the people who are also trying to recover from the addiction. In the sober living homes, no alcohol and drug is permitted. The structure and the rules of the home may vary from individual to individual. The benefits of the sober home include better recovery along with personal freedom.

An individual lives in a semi-controlled environment, which provides safety and security in order to protect the person from the drawbacks of recovery. The individual has the support of other individuals too who also have similar problems that make it easy to understand the difficulties of each other in a better way. Taking the support of the sober living, the addict is able to recover easily and successfully.

In the sober living home, the residents are required to submit random drug tests to make sure they are abiding by house rules. A sober living environment is one way to keep accountability and ensure sustained abstinence.  This check helps in making extra efforts in maintaining and following the rules of the home by everyone properly. The residents of the home are also required to take up a job or return to the school so that their lives are kept busy. This will ensure that the residents are involved in some constructive activities so that they are able to occupy their free time. The residents are allowed to visit their homes every weekend. But this is not for all the residents. Some of the residents may be restricted after taking into consideration various factors like the person’s relapse history and their home situation.

Drug Alcohol Treatment

There are numerous drug alcohol treatment centers all around and it is often confusing for a patient or his/her family to select a right one for them. The better way to select a rehab center is to know about its drug alcohol treatment programs and past performance results. Talk to the doctors, professionals, counselors and even with patients their and you summarize your findings on a decision making sheet.

There are four most common types of drug alcohol treatment, Outpatient methadone, outpatient drug-free, long-term residential and short-term inpatient. Treatment for drug addiction to substances including methamphetamines, cocaine, club drugs including ecstasy and heroin as well as prescription drugs is available at most treatment centers.  Certain types of drug addiction like addiction to methamphetamines can be very dangerous and requires specific treatment to be effective.

In outpatient methadone treatment, medications are used to reduce the urge for drugs and their effects. Counseling is offered to help the patient regain physical and mental stability. Results of outpatient methadone vary from person to person. Some stay in this treatment program for long period while some move to abstinence.

In drug-free programs include problem-solving groups, specialized therapies like psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and 12-step programs are used.

In long-term residential programs 24 hours drug-free treatment is offered among the community of counselors and other fellow addicts. Some patients might have to stay for several months in this program or seek out an aftercare program to supplement it.

In short-term inpatient programs patients are kept in for 30 days or less, the treatment includes some medical stabilization and lifestyle changing counseling to achieve abstinence. Success of short-term treatment programs has always been a question to the community but the DATOS study has proved significant improvements in patients attending these 30 days program.

All of the above treatments are found to be effective in reducing addiction in patients. Normally the patient with high motivation, legal pressure to receive treatment and lack of any severe psychological disorder to stay in treatment completes the course successfully.

Every drug addiction treatment center is a little different from others. You should also take note of licenses and certificates of the center and their policies towards insurance acceptance and payment conditions.
