Doctors Who Over Prescribe Their Patients
It’s devastating to hear more stories like these come to light. Doctor shopping is a practice in which addicts go to doctors who are well known to liberally prescribe medication with little or no medical examinations. This is a dangerous practice as the doctors often realize see signs that the individual needs help at a drug addiction center. Instead, the LA Times finds a general practitioner whose 6 patients died soon after receiving prescriptions from Dr. Lisa Tseng.

Addiction Therapy Helps Families
Dr. Tseng has not been charged but six families are now in grief of losing their loved ones. Her patients consisted of 6 young men in their 20s. Many of the men drove hours to Dr. Tseng’s office to get prescriptions. Authorities are finding that the men have a lot in common, including needing addiction therapy for their addiction to pain killers. Many of the patients suffered injuries from sports injuries which caused them reoccurring pain as well as an excuse to get more prescription medication.

Drug Addiction Treatment for Painkillers
Drug addiction treatment for prescription drugs is an important topic to address. Many patients and their families can become disillusioned because these drugs are legal and can be obtained easily. When suffering from chronic pain or other conditions, it makes it easy for individuals to feel a physical and mental dependency on these drugs – which are very strong. Take the time to get your loved one the help that they need so that they don’t meet the tragic fate of these six young men.

The problems brought about by drug addiction can be very alarming since more and more people are getting addicted to more than one substance. Most of these drugs create withdrawal symptoms once the consumption is stopped since the body is now accustomed to the substance, luckily addiction therapy can help. The severity of the withdrawal however depends on the nature of the substance abuse and the level of dependency.

Drug detox on the other hand is one way of getting rid of the toxins that the body has accumulated with the use of drugs. Since withdrawal is the first step in drug detoxification, as much as possible, detox centers offer the simple medication to minimize the body’s reaction. Depending on the case of each patient, people who use cocaine and alcohol takes the routine detox course. Counseling and therapy are also provided along the course.

Ideally, drug detox ensures the complete purification from drugs and covers all withdrawal symptoms experienced by the patient. The main goal is to remove the drug residue in the patient’s body. In case the residues are not completely removed, cravings may occur some years after the treatment.

Basically, there are three stages in the drug detoxification process. The first stage is called the medical detox. The doctor will oversee the withdrawal process of the patient in order to ensure that there are minimum complications encountered. The second stage is called the physical detox. A nutritionist will guide the patient in working out for the physical health of the body by providing a more balanced diet. And the last stage is the emotional detox. This is where counseling happens especially with the patients having trouble with the drug detoxification process.

The whole drug detox treatment is a difficult task. That is why personal conviction of the patient is very necessary as well as the support of the family and friends. The success of the detoxification is based on the determination of the patient to completely get rid of the substance abuse addiction.
